Scratches!

So for you guys who go out bush a lot, whats the story with paint work and wheel scratches? Do you polish them out or just leave em scratched?, did some tracks this week an sustained a fair few from dead branches, with a fully loaded 110 with roof tent, awning, etc some were almost impossible.

I would say it is a individual thing as to what people do with there battle scars . A few variables like age of the vehicle, condition the owner likes to keep it in, whether it is a dedicated bush pig or a daily driver etc. As for my self, my ute was brought with the view of getting a few character stripes in my adventures. So it has got a few now. Suppose when it starts to look a bit more average than it already does I will clean it up a bit. I have all ways believed that a good paint job won`t get you home, so long as my ute is reasonbly well maintained and looks not to bad I`m happy enough with a few scratches.

After a rather hectic trip exploring all and sundry up Cape York I came home with a lot of scratches.I just cut and polished them out and it came up very good.Bugger of a job though.

Wash & polish...

I wouldn't cut it too often as you might wear through to the metal!!!

Our Prado suffered badly every trip we went on, silver metallic and you daren't use heavy scratch removers or there'll be very little paint left. I was for ever laying good wax on it in a vain attempt to stop further scratching. Didn't work.
And I hate polishing cars.
The solution after 4 nearly 5 totally reliable years motoring.....sell it and buy another white Defender, where the scratches are not so noticeable.
Oh, I forgot, you've already got a Deafener so that fix is no good for you.
Happy polishing or just try to forget them.

Never polished a single panel on the Defender... Scratches are badges

The D4 is carved from end to end on both sides now - from roof down to sill panels - including the tail lights...

Amazing how relaxed one can be as you carve up $80k on a track!

There is a material that you paint on and wash off - forms a rubber type coating that protects the paint. When you finish the trip hose it off with a high pressure hose - costs about $45 a litre.

Yes it works well, but can be incredibly difficult to get off, even with a good pressure blaster. Use it to coat the broad expanses of the panels but keep it away from trim edges, badgework, and panel joints etc. The big pieces on the flat panels seem to lift off ok, but those cracks and edges are a different story.
