    Defender engine problem

Took the 110 out this morning, all went well for the first 30ks or so, then got a loss of power resulting in it only limping along in 2nd or 3rd at crawling speed.

Felt like a lack of fuel problem, no obvious hoses off or anything, and both lift pump and injection pump are less than 12 months old, so shouldn't be the cause.

I'm going to swap the fuel filter and clean the one at the back later today, incase they're clogged (Though they're relatively new and recently cleaned from the last service too) and will also pull the intercooler hose off to check it's not a lack of air problem into the engine but wouldn't mind some pointers on what else I should be checking?

Failing that, it's off to a mechanic if I can find one!!

    Thanks
    Jeff

Jeff, I wonder if the inlet hoses to the turbo or the intercooler hoses are collapsing when the engine gets on boost? I have no experience with it so I'm guessing. Are they soft?

I just had a quick search and it's not uncommon on the Td5, dunno about the 300Tdi,

Thanks Ron...these are silicon hoses, about 4 years old, so shouldn't be the issue...but I will pull the hose at the inlet manifold and see if it revs cleaner just to check.

Those engines are really simple, so I'd expect the cause to be simple too, especially as it sounds like a sudden change...

Check all the hoses & unions.
    Air filter.
Turbo pressure pipe to the top of the injector pump.
Fuel pipes could be letting in air.
    Water in the fuel?
    Clean out sedimenter.
    Fuel filter
    EGR??
