Hi all,

I am new to this so please excuse any mistakes.

I recently purchased a 1950 Series 1 80" from Cliff (thanks Cliff) and I have been doing the usual tracing of chassis, gearbox, engine and axle numbers. Through my research I have discovered the chassis (06109135), gearbox (06109362) and rear axle (06114951) are from 1950 but I am confused with the engine. The engine appears from first looks to be the 1600 because the rocker cover doesn't have the breather but the engine number (111808209) says it is a 1958 2lt.

Does anyone know if the 1600 rocker cover and head will fit on the 2lt block?

I also have a 1950 S1 (mine with a '49 sideplate engine though). Coincidentally I also have a brother living in Stoneville. I'll have to call around next time I'm over your way visiting and have a look at what you've got.

According to the Faulls Motors records, your 06109135 was originally despatched with engine 06109359 on "29/5/50 to Thopson Bros. Carnarvon?"

Off-hand I can't help you much with the question regarding the early rocker cover and later engine, but there are several other ways to pick an engine. There are differences in the sumps, rocker covers (obviously you are aware of this one) and a few other giveaways.

I'm sure a few experts will be along shortly. Make yourself known in the WA section too, as we're always looking out for each other. Welcome along.

Thanks for the quick reply. You are more than welcome to come around and have a look. Besides the 80" I also have two 1958 series 1 109", one is completely original and only had one owner and the other is complete but has a holden red motor.

Thanks for finding out the details for the 80". How do you find out who the vehicles were sold to and when? Do you have the Faulls Motor records or is there a website to check? I would like to find the details for the other 2 series 1's and the spare chassis I have.

Can you also find out details with only the engine number? I also have a 2lt engine which I found at the Newman tip.

My Dad collected the series 1, 109" and passed them onto me to restore but I have held out for an 80". Now I have one it is time to start, so if anyone has any advice or tips don't be shy.

I am pretty certain that the cylinder spacing is the same overall on the two litre and 1600 engines, so I can see no reason why the rocker covers should not be interchangeable.

There are minor differences but the rocker cover and head are interchangable between the 1600 and 2 litre.
