    Hypothetical "Would it fit"

    G'Day All
I have been wondering as to whether a TDV6 or maybe even the TDV8 would fit into the engine bay of a Defender (2000 and on shall we say). I know that the wiring loom would have to be a hybrid of the old an the new to get either motor to work, and that's not a big issue, what is the issue is "Is there enough room to do so with out chopping the hell out of the firewall, wings, floor ect ect and would you get enough air flow to keep the V's cool?"

Its just that my 2001 130 TD5 will die one day as all old engines do, so I sometime ponder what I would replace it with if ever I had to do so.

I know the TDV6 has been made to fit the D1 and the P38 - there's a couple of them running about in the UK, and a company that specialises in selling conversion parts and ECUs.

Given that a few on here have had V8s in their Defender engine bay without too much issue, it would seem logical that it should.

One of the uk outfits (may have been Bell) put a tdv6 in a defender there is some footage of it on YouTube. Don't know what was involved in getting it in though.

I often muse on what else would go in there when the time comes. One guy on AULRO put an LS2 in a defender and I think most of the build is in a thread on here I think he was called CAL, from the Newcastle area.

as the others have said the V6 has been put in...the stand alone harness is big $$$ somewhere around 3500 pounds!

Now the Ford teritory has the 2.7v6 similar to the older Disco/jag engine....

the other option is the Ford/mazda 3.2Tdci and the 6 speed from the defender but HD option

Well there you go then, looks like things have come on a pace if there is a kit available for them now.

How much for a low km TDV6 and gear box to suit?

In the UK I reckon not too much as 2nd hand discos and ranges have quite a low value, here it's a different story and possibly need a written of vehicle to plunder.

Well I have been on Bells site a few times, an I went back again tonight for another look see. Couldn't find any reference to a TD5-TDV6 swap kit/loom/ECU or even a TDV6 motor for that matter, that one could buy. I would have thought that given the amount of Discos that could be donors for this in the UK it be a standard item on the sales list! Pity.

They are partnered with Simtek Body Logic. The kit for the TDV6 is 2950 GBP and is listed here:

Thanks for all the input guys, definitely something to think about. May have to start a new penny saving fund so I can change up when the ol TD5 finally does let go.
