i have carried the same one around for gods knows how many years....at least 10

i cannot remember the last time i even used it and from memory its only been used maybe three or four times, always kept clean and stored in a a bag under the seat

Q. should i replace it based on age, it still looks perfect........

as my daily drive/tourer has twin diff locks and a PTO i will hopefully not get stuck considering i no longer do the tough bash and crash stuff

i still think its good insurance to carry one

I throw mine every 2 years or if damaged by a recovery.

If yours is in as good as new condition, no frays and the over stretch indicator is intact then I'd say keep it.

Mine is 13yrs now and still going. I'd just inspect it and if there are any frays or stitching problems then replace it. Keep them out of the light.

I'm with Slunnie on this one. Keep it clean and dry and out of U.V light and inspect it for fraying and stitching security.

Kinetic Recovery having originated in the military taught us that if a kinetic recovery aid (snatch strap) has been used, it is good practice to hang them up for at least 24 hours to release all the accumulated energy.

Once they've released the stored energy they can be washed in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with no exesive spin (if your missus will allow it!), hung up to dry and packed away in cool dry storage.

If you do this religiously they have an undisclosed lifespan which will only decrease with physical wear as the guys wrote below.

So what some of you are saying is that I should probably replace my 32 year old snatch strap?

I haven't even taken it out of the downpipe tube it's stored in for the last 3 years!

This when my OH&S professional house mate cuts up 3-5 year old safety harnesses when they expire.

We tend to err on the side of caution if there is a possibility of a person going splat.
Software (straps/ harnesses etc.) shoud have a life stamp on the tag. As stated, retired if in poor condition.
Hardware (carabiners, connectors etc.) aree only retired if damaged or suspected of damage.

IF the snatch strap hasnt been exposed the nylon has a shelf life of 10 years.
