Hard to tell from the pic, but has it been hot or run out of oil?
Mick.
G'day,
Can anyone comment on the wear on this mainshaft. Is it scrap or right to run for another 150k?
Cheers,
Jas

Yeah, I took about 10 pics trying to get rid of the reflections.
I have never run the box hot or out of oil, but I have not had it that long. The bronze looking worn sections are loss of the chroming not burnishing.
Cheers,
Jas
You need to run a Micrometer over it and check the dimensions!
It may have lost it's hardness too if it's been cooked!
Cheers, Mick.

how the hell has mine lasted past 300k and over 200k of that towing a dual axle trailer![]()

R380's run too hot when they are asked to do a little work. I used synthetic oil in mine and it had to be replaced more often than I recon was reasonable for a properly rated gearbox - the oil had deteriorated due to excess heat.
Sorry don't have time to comment further about the wear, other than it is related to lubricration.
