Passenger or Drivers Side Awnings ?

Ok,

I have been thinking about an awning for some time and really like the foxwing from OzTent.

However searching the net today I noted that a right hand (driver side) one for $630 whilst the best left hand (passenger side) awning was over $700.

My question is why would that be so ?.

What side do most people have their awnings mounted an and is there a reason for one side V's the other or was it just because ?.

This is not intended to be a debate about the Foxwing V's something else just which side.

PS. I know some might think this a stupid question as 99% of awnings are straight pull out so can be mounted either side, The foxwing, which I am sure many are familiar with is a swing out awning that provides shade to the side and rear of the vehicle so can only be fitted to the left or right side !!

Open rear door intrusion into shade space might be the biggest consideration.

Maybe because we are right hand drive and there are worldwide economies of scale for left hand drive/right side foxwings?

I have a drivers side foxwing on my Disco 2. My dad got it for me a year or 2 ago as it was considerably cheaper than the left side one and it was to go on his Humvee as he had the rooftop tent coming over the passenger side.
It works well on the D2 as it doesnt foul the top of the snorkel.

He was told when he bought the foxwing they were for export (LHD) markets.

On a D3 with a one up, one down rear door you could go either side if you don't have a rear wheel carrier, if you do have one or ever intend getting one then go passenger side.

Weird, you would think passenger side would be cheaper, I would pay the extra $70 and go passenger.

In saying that my neighbor has a drivers side set, this is because his roof top tent opens to the passenger side......this is on a D4

I only have a side awning but positioned it on the passenger side due to the fact that if I was out 4wding I can pull over on the side of the track put the awning up have a drink or lunch and not be positioned on the track, yet a mate of mine has it on the drivers side and reckons its perfect for him, the decision should be made on where you believe you will likely be putting it up and if anything would impede it at all.

Seems the global LHD markets means the drivers side version is cheaper and for most it is irrelevant which side unless I want a wheel carrier (unlikely).

The parking up on a track comment by DoctorJ makes sense but I also assume I could simply turn the vehicle around if i really wanted shade.

I've got two normal pull out awnings as the roof tent opens to the rear of the vehicle, although a foxwing from the passenger side would be the bee's knees if I didn't have the tent.

I have one on the left of my toy.

I do all my cooking on that side as I don't have to walk around the rear door when it's open for the frdge.

But... my mates say it's for shade while waiting for a tow truck
