    series IIa

orright, now you lot know i didn't defect to the dark side,
i just got something more my age.

it suits me, don't you think?

now comes the pleading for help with bits to improve the package.

it was fitted with a toro overdrive,
serious investigation of the overdrive revealed that the input shaft was severly brinnelled needing some repair
i would like to know if one of you has had a similar problem repaired.

it was also fitted with a capstan winch,
i have dismantled it to find that the unobtanium bearing on the pinion shaft is cacktus.
has anyone had the pleasure of finding a replacement bearing?

now, the other day we went on the border loop trip and i discovered that the holes in the wing tops were for the garden tool brackets.
where can i get these brackets from?
and of course that will lead into where can i find the tools?

there are going to be more questions as i discover more stuff,
like high range gears, parabolic springs, fly screens for the air vents,
    passengers, extra fuel tanks.

but for now, i love my little friend.
she, it, whatever needs a name.

it was called lexie by the previous owner as the yellow number plate begins with lex,
but it doesn't stick well with me and will lose that plate in a short while [rip v8 ]
our eldest son, who now thinks he owns it, just gotta wait until i get dead, suggested my dads army rank, but that doesn't suit me,
so what do we call it?

mutters and offs to the private lounge to partake of a calming beverage before turning in for the night...............

The highlighted red bit sounds interesting Harry, any preferences at all?

Your mudguards look to have come off a S3 military vehicle unless someone has gone to a lot of trouble splitting them and replacing just the tops. S2a military vehicles had cut guards and 88" shorties such as yours were no longer purchased by the services after about 65/66 or so, they were all long bases from then on.
The tool brackets come up on fleaby from time to time or conversely you could start haunting the REMLR "for sale" posts and see what comes up. The tool brackets are reasonably eagerly sought after items so be prepared for a bit of a shock.
The tools themselves are pretty easy to come by as they are weren't actually a land rover thing, so anything that suits your hands will do the trick. A standard pick handle from Bunnings or equivalent, 9 lb pick head to fit aforementioned handle, axe and a round mouth shovel. The original shovels were T handles but the D seems to be the most popular current type.
Have a bit of a search round on "calVIN" Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands . You will need chassis numbers or vin numbers for this, and ascertain what "the mushroom" (gold top) really is. (Near side rear shackle mount, but you already knew that).

Regarding the bearing, have you taken it to BSC at Southport / Ashmore? They're pretty helpful there, particularly Donna.

the toro overdrive shaft can be built up and ground if you want to invest the bucks.

but are you going to drive it like you stole it or just potter round at 80kph?

if your just going to potter round, remove it and live without one...

i love my overdrive but the constant maintenance gives me the irrits at times and the toro doesn't have a dip stick like the fairy so it is a pia to monitor the oil level

These parts are relatively easy to get, except the passenger part

    third time lucky,
glen, pax, i do hope chris will come on more trips in this car,
numbers, sorted, it's kosher, ckd pressed metal corp. 4/71

jason, it all works, even the engine oil has not gone black!
has had some engine work, valve seats for unleaded, cam, other stuff?

donna, cbc burliegh can supply for lots and lots of dosh, trying for a cheaper option first.

dave, do you know someone that has done this?
i would like to do modern highway speeds, she sits comfortably 80 to 85, can do 90 but i think she is angry with me at 90!
drive it like i stole it, that's how i drive anything!
my toro has a dipstick which i think is genuine as the case has a boss for it, and what maintenance issues do you have with the overdrive?

caroline, she came with a picture of a girl named marilyn,
    maybe that will stick?

offs to ebay and remler ads...........
