Hi Tough Engineering, Ryecroft St, Carrara, Qld. (07 5530 4123) can supply axles in Hy-Tuff.

Barry at Hi Tough used to work for Mal Storey/Maxi Drive making axles before Mal closed his workshop.

Ashcrofts in the UK can supply axles in 4340.

I would check out Lucky8 in the US for the sharpest pricing. Thats where I got my front axles/CV's. Justin the owner is a member on here also.

    upgraded 10 spline

hi guys is it worth upgrading ten having more splines spline original to upgraded ten spline axle made out of better material? isnt 24 spline axle diameter the same diameter with just more splines? i know having more splines between axle and hub is important but does anybody make off the shelf ten spline for people that want to stay?

Stock 10 spline axles will develop permanent twist and break when used with larger tyres than stock.

Maxi-drive used to make 10 spline axles from stronger material. I doubt there is market for these now.

Don't forget the stock 24 spline front axles are only 24 spline at the inner (diff) end and the outer (cv) end is stepped down to suit the smaller stock cv, making them only about the same or lower strength as the old 10 spline.

When upgrading to after market 24 spline front axles, most will upgrade the cv as well so the axle doesn't have to step down in diameter.

Make sure that the heavy duty axles are waisted, that is the diameter of the shaft between the two splines is the same or narrower than the diameter of the inside or valley of the splines.

The reason for this is to allow torsional wind up or twist of the entire axle to relieve shock loads and not just the ends twisting with a load.
