Hi all
This is my first post, although I have often jumped on to get an answer to a D3 problem...and it's been a fantastic resource! Thanks to you all!
So I'm hoping this post might contibute something more to the fund of knowledge in here about the D3.
A few months back my wife reported that the message centre had flashed up "Engine System Fault" along with all the alarm bells, but the car still seemed to perform normally. I noticed that the message never stayed on the screen for more than a few seconds...unlike some messages that we've had before...but would pop up at any time...no consistency like some members have found while towing for example.
My LR chap plugged in the fault finder and all that showed up was "high fuel temperature" or something, but he really didn't have a clue...just suggested we keep an eye on it. I went onto the forum and all I could find here was some references to a possible turbo problem, which didn't seem to relate to my vehicle as it just would flash the message when it felt like it whether we were booting it or just tonking along...sometimes four times in the space of 30 minutes, then nothing for a couple of days!!
Then a month or so later a neighbour mentioned that one of my rear brake lights wasn't working...so naturally I fixed it! About a week after that, my wife remarked that the fault hadn't shown up since I changed the globe so it must have fixed it! I tried not to let the upward roll of my eyes become too obvious...it's just not worth the drama!! But then I remembered that I had had a faulty suspension message a few years back and when I contacted the dealer he asked if I'd changed any light globes recently because they'd experienced some possible connections like this before. (As it happened, the suspension problem was due to a blown fusible link, not a blown globe!).
Before you all drift off to sleep with this story...a quick ending! The "Engine System Fault" hasn't re-appeared in over two months of plenty of active driving since changing the brake-light globe.
So...if it happens to you...maybe check your light globes!! It seems that it may not take much to confuse a Disco computer.
