fitting traxide with rear battery box in D4

I have ordered a kit to fit a removable battery box in the rear of my D4

I should get the kit next week and have the instructions from Tim at Traxide

This week end I started to prepare for the fitting where I need to get the extended cable from inside the cabin into the engine bay .....
The instructions tell me where the hole I'm to use is ..............but try as i might i cannot seem to find it ......it is supposed to be located 5 to 8 cm up under the insulation near the corner of the carpet ....and near the right hand kickplate drivers side ......very difficult to reach in there ............and I cannot seem to be able to feel it ...

Has anyone installed one of these kits in D4 ........and are we sure that model actually has a hole under there ....there is one higher up that i use for my UHF also hard to get at .....but may have to use that...........would prefer to use the said hole near the kick plate if i can find it .....or it is actually there in a D4

It's there just really really really hard to see and find! If you look down from the engine side you should see the black plug. When you pull back the carpet reach up with your hand and you will feel it. Good luck. Oh you will require another set of hands to help feed cable through!

You can see the grommet from the engine bay. Push it into the cab or pull it out if you have access to someone with small hands. I poked through a bit of yellow tongue (the stuff that joins particle boad flooring together) from the engine bay to the cab, attached the cable inside the cab and pulled it back into the engine bay. Anything similar will work. I tend to steer clear of coat hanger wire as it can poke through where you don't want it. Good luck. PS a bit of armour all or similar on the cable makes it slide easier.

thanks guys ....i finally found it ....but left a bit of skin under my dash .....unfortunatly i dont have tim matheson fingers (sorry sorry ..got to stay PC ) ........bugger of a place to get to (sorry sorry ) ....
.will try the armorall ......also got some inox ....that should do the trick

Hi Thomas and that hole is hard to find but it makes the installation a lot tidier.

BTW, if your kit does not turn up tomorrow, please phone me as it was posted on Thursday via Express Post so you should have received it on Friday

If you can find one of the super size wide white nylon zip ties ( the aircon guys seem to use them the most ) about 400mm long, they are invaluable to feed wires around a D4. Snip the clip end off and drill a small hole. If you then feed some strands of your wire through this hole, and tape them in down the length of the wire, they stay put even with pretty energetic push and pull. I found it particularly useful to get the cable through the cable tray under the door trim, and through the rear pillar area. Helpful for the feed around the pedals, but you have probably done that by now.

thanks Tim it arrived today ...........assume the bit sticking out from the side of the SC 80 is the circuit breaker .......I assume the whole unit will fit in the space ....i will do installation in the next few days

I could not find it in my MY13. Perhaps I didn't try hard enough but I ended up using the other hole up higher and to the left. It leaves less cable at the back of the car but still works.

BTW if you get that white glue (from under the rubber/felt) on the car when getting the kick plate etc out - "De-solve it" works a treat to get it off! Smells better than Mineral Turps.

thanks all for your help ..................did the hard bit of the installation today ....getting the wires through the fire wall in that spot ....($#&$ of a job).....after about an hour of frustration where i could not get the red and black through together ...i had a moment of clear vision .....why not put them through seperatly as the black one has the bigger ring for the earth on it and so it fills up the hole making it difficult to get the bulk of the two wires through together???

I put a wire through from the engine bay hooked up the ring thing on the black wire and ...wallah .....through she went .......then put the wire back through and taped and stringed to the red one and with a bit of jiggeling and a fair dollop of vasoline got it through ..

the rest looks easy ......so will do that in the next few days ...then i can plug my fridge in and enjoy a few coldies
