    Awnings

I have a landrover expedition roof rack and I was wondering what fittings others have used as the rack runs flush to the car roof...

I had an Expedition Rack until recently, and had a conventional awning mounted to the the passenger's side.

This is hard to describe, but here goes. I made up 3 brackets out of light weight flat bar. The flat bar ran from the channel in the top side rail, ( attached with a sml threaded strip of flat bar inside the channel ) , vertically to a riv nut fitted to the inside of the lower roofrack frame. A simple u shaped piece of bar was then welded to each vertical strip. Cut the u shape to give yourself 3 flat mounting points for the awning, just clear of the roofrack sides. The u shape protruding through the middle of the two roofrack siderails, upper and lower. Once you have a template that works, the brackets can be replicated in aluminium for a better look if required. The brackets don't have to be heavy, as the attachment points are close enough to give them strength.
