    the jack..and steering freeplay

hi all, as a means to wind down after the fires i figure its time to look at getting my 86 inch club regoed, however amongst the small stuff ive got to do i realised i dont have a jack.
Could someone please put up a picture of the jacking equipment from a 1955 era car?
    cheers mark

The only other thing im unshure of is how mutch movement at the steering wheel is acceptable?

See attached picture - this is a 2a, but S1 was the same. However, the jack will have been a similar Australian made one in all probability as part of Australian content, so it does not need to be identical.

Steering free play should be easy to reduce to about two inches or less on the rim of the wheel - as to how much is acceptable - probably depends on the tester with a vehicle of this age.

A RRC early screw jack would do, needs two rods that fit together and a wooden handle (broomstick fits).

    Hi Mark,
This is a picture of the tools I found behind the seats, mounted on the bulkhead by spring clips, and under the passengers seat of my 1955 S1 86", including the original jack and associated jacking handle.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

Early L/R series 1's used a Shelley LJ25 jack which is very similar to the one John B posted but has a larger flat base & the handle is the same . I also bought a ex army series2 jack neacently which looks the same as the Shelley but the handle is round where the one for the Shelley is square , they all have wooden handles. I will post a photo when i can find it . Wayne

Hi Mark, These are the photo,s of the jack for my early 1950 series1 80" . i bought a jack off gumtree last mounth which looked the same as this one but a different brand which came out of a series 2 ex army L/R. The series1 metal handle has a sq shaft where the series2 had a round shaft & the flat is a bit smaller on the s2. Wayne
