    Starting woes

    Hey guys and girls,

I have a 96 v8 petrol disco running on gas. The problem i seem to be having only recently is that starting the car either cold or hot on gas is almost impossible and it sounds like its drains the battery doing so. Any advice or tips on what it could be and how to fix it.

    Cheers

Hoo boy, where do you start?

    Battery stuffed/flat
    Alternator
    Dirty battery terminals
    Starter motor
    Battery leads
    Plugs
    Leads
    Coil
    Ignition module
    Ignition timing
    Gas mixture
    Petrol function
    etc
    etc
    etc

Sounds like you need a LR friendly mechanic on the job.

Bee Utey you might also be able to point me in right direction too.

I always start on Gas as per your instruction but it will now no longer start first thing of a morning unless its on petrol. Will start of Gas later in the day ok but probably not quite as good as it used to.

What should I be looking at first as has no issues on Petrol start up

    Thanks,
    Rez

Two possibilities, 1. the idle mixture is a bit too lean, adjust the idle mixture for the best idle speed, or 2. you have some contaminated lpg go through your system and the vapour valve on the lpg converter is sticking. Engine heat tends to soften the sticky residues. More of a pain on lpg-only cars.

PM me your phone number, typing responses takes too long.
