    High current cable fire wall penetration point

    Hi all,

    I am keen to find out where I can safely penetrate the firewall of a D4 from the battery high current cables to run HF radio and fridge.

    I am looking to run 2 separate feeds each 10mm2 of red and black with double insulation.

    Hi Gerald,
    Under the cover on the drivers side (where we used to fit the aux battery in a D3), you'll see the brake booster. With a torch, look on the right hand side of that and you'll see an unused rubber grommet (which is used for the clutch cable on manual models overseas).

    I ran 4GA power cable from my aux battery into the cabin through there.

    Hi Rob,

    Thanks for that. Will take a closer look tomorrow. My needs a 2 fold, one cable for radio and the second for ancillaries like fridge. My thought is run the Comms stuff via the grommet via booster and fridge and other rear stuff underneath the vehicle and have it pop up around the rear so I can have 2 Anderson outlets, 1 for in cabin feeds and 2 external trailer and plug-in solar charging a dual battery system.

    Food for thought!!

    Hi Gerald,
    I ran the 4GA to under the drivers seat - connected it to a Narva fuse block. Then I have a 3A fuse to UHF radio, two 20A fuses to fridge and charging power sockets in luggage space.

    Later, I'll run 8GA to amplifier under drivers side panel in luggage space and another to Anderson socket at tow electric sockets space.

    BTW, the source of power for my install is an Optima D34 yellow top on a tray in front of the main battery and Traxide SC80. The 4GA runs into a fuse block on top of the battery, then the cable is run under the rain gutter, above rear of engine - there are a heap of slots to cable tie it there.
