    Engine oil

Hi guys, next week I'll change my Defender Td5's the engine oil. I'm thinking of putting Mobil 1 Devac 5W40 because it has very good features and clearly superior to common commercial oils. Do you think I do well? As you can see is an heavy trucks oil but in spite of this I believe that this oil can also be used in our Td5 without any problem but only advantages.

    Mobil Delvac 1™ 5W-40 - Singapore | Mobil™ Asia Pacific

If an oil has high lubricating properties and as a correct grade is fine, the rest are commercial agreements.

    Stop me if I'm delirious

The man to ask is Rick130 here on the forum...

He's the resident lubrication and oil specialist and I'm sure he'll be able to give you he's educated and experienced opinion.

    Cheers,

    Lou

Mate, the Mobil is a great oil but I think your money would be better spent on products such as Penrite, Nulon ect. I use Penrite 5W40 diesel and change out every 10k. I read some where on this forum that Mobil 1 has contributed to accelerated cam lobe wear on some TD5 engines.

He's in Italy, or says so.
Unless that is Little Italy I doubt he can get Penrite or Nulon.

I'm no expert Lou, just had an unhealthy fascination with the slippery stuff over the years

IMO Delvac 1 is an excellent oil to use in a TD5

Others that you could consider would be Fuchs Titan Ultra MC 10W-40, Total Rubia TIR 8900 10W-40, Shell Rimula R6 10W-40, etc.

Don't get too hung up that most syn HD diesel oils are 10W rather than 5W, they flow well enough at low ambients unless you are experiencing consistent -15*C or lower starts, in which case you should probably be using an oil heater anyway.
I'd much rather use a HD diesel oil in a TD5 over car type dual rated oils due to the high loads on the injector cam lobes.

Id like an engine oil that if you only half fill the required amount it does the job fine. If you over fill by double it reduces its volume down to the correct amount. One that cures warped engines and leaky headgaskets. Makes a 2.5lt have the low down torque of a 3.9T and that lasts 1 billion kms between changes.
