			Squeal on startup

					Hi,

My 2009 Defender has a squeal like the fan belt is slipping (not sure if it even has a fan belt) It only does it for about 30 seconds when I first start it for the day, it has usually stopped before I get out of the drive, and does not do it the rest of the day.

I am out of warranty so just want to know if anyone knows if I should get it looked at urgently or weather it can wait a few months/ k's until its next service.

Or is there anything I can do to find the source of the noise, considering I only get one opportunity a day and for around 30 seconds I am not sure how easy it would be to find.

 thanks
 Patrick

Just the serpentine belt which drives all ancilleries. It has self tensioners, but if there is some drag on it (eg idler bearing starting to go) it could squeal as you describe. If it was me I'd check the temperature of all pulleys after a short run. If anything heats up fast it may identify a problem developing. Pretty quick & easy for a mechanic to check it out too.
