    Peel Electronics LPG Controllers (opinions)

    Hi all,

I am looking into getting a LPG system for the defender and have been looking at what systems are available. I have noticed that there a lot of companies in the eastern states, and have looked at the companies most people refer to.

I have found a company called Peel Electronics that make controllers for the system. Has anybody heard of them or are aware if their systems are any good?

Here is their web page http://www.peelinstruments.com.au/index.html

    Thanks

I've spoken to my LPG wholesaler a few times about the Peel gizmo, he has purchased a couple for evaluation. He isn't all that impressed so far with the adjustability/ramping with increasing power abilities of this thing. It's built in programme makes it more idiot proof than a simple system, with its warm up phase and EGT based cut-out.

Personally I have fitted a couple of Eco-Shot units to late model Rodeos, they are a basic boost pressure activated regulator and work whenever they are turned on. Together with an EGT gauge they can be driven safely or as hard as the owner wishes.

There's also the question of what year this deefer of yours is, vehicles from 2002 on should have emissions certified kits fitted but I haven't found any ones certified for LR's yet.

We have one on a falcon, and took it to lpg shops re cold starting on petrol before lpg engages problem . I ended up ringing peel about purchasing a new gizmo from them. They sold me a new one, I plugged it in and all was ok, then within 12 months I'm having problems again. where it takes a few attempts at cold starting, and eventuall it doesn't want to run on straight petrol. I haven't pulled it out to check yet, it may not be the peel, but some faulty relays, so it's too soon to speak about the second gizmo.

I had that on mine too. I never replaced it. It is the internal switching relay. So I used a horn relay to switch the injector power. First I controlled the horn relay via the Peel unit's injector cut terminals which was fine due to the lower load on the internal relay. Then the internal relay failed completely so I controlled the horn relay with the ignition circuit.
No more automatic petrol start assist but you can do that with the change over switch if you need to.

If you got a new one and then used it to control a horn relay from the beginning the internal relay should be fine. Alternatively you could just get a better quality unit to begin with.

I fixed mine yesterday, The non running on Petrol was a blown fuel pump fuse, FIXED. The hard cold start Fixed by adjusting the petrol timer to longer time, it now starts pretty well and change over with just a slight hic up just noticable.
