    18" Tyres

I have a friend with an FL2 TD4 with 18" rims. After destroying 2 tyres on the weekend he is in need of replacements.

Sourcing 17"s looks like the best option down the track, but for now surely there must be something better than the Wranglers in 18"? Usage is almost all on-road, but it sees its fair share of dirt roads.

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Jon

Land Rover did very well in designing a capable off road cross over that you can't buy AT tyres for. At the moment, 18's and 19's don't have an AT tyre available. You can get a Pirelli Scorpion ATR in 255/55/18 and that's wider than standard but around the same rolling diameter. I'm not sure if it will rub anywhere on full lock or if it will fit in the spare well without bulging the floor up.

Thanks for the reply Mike. The ATR would be a good choice, but am concerned about the size.

    Does anyone run these?

    Cheers,

If your friend can wait till at least July, General are meant to produce AT tyres in the Freelander size. The only catch, as replied to my web query to General tyres, is that, they are undecided as to whether they will import it to Australia. If they don't, hopefully tirerack or somewhere will ship from US.

Yeah I saw that, unfortunately with two stuffed tyres he can't wait that long. Looks like it will have to be Wranglers for now and try hunting down some 17"s.

I thought I remembered seeing it on here somewhere....
Freeloader2 put 255's on his. They were 17" but would be the same width as the 255/55/18's in the Pirelli's. The tyres in the link are a much bigger diameter than the Pirellis as well. Therefore, I would think the 255/55/18 would fit just fine and be legal as well.

Thanks Mike. Looks promising, will investigate further.
