My '51 doesn't have the firewall lights, but does have the headlights through the grill (not the inverted T).

when was you '51 built ?

summer 51 in england would be very late 51 year models just prior to building 52 year models would it not?

this is one reason the car salesman approach to talking about land rovers confuses the crap out of people...

car buyers never go by model year only salesman trying to talk something up into something it isnt

Another of the errors in the James Taylor Books. Apparently there is no separate summer in the southern hemisphere.

Larry is correct, according to the Land Rover 1948 to 1951 parts manual the lamps in the firewall changed at 16662023 its rather hard to identify but if you look at the body panels you can see the changed firewall part number 302534 which is the same as the 1952 1953 firewall. It accounts only for very few vehicles delivered at the end of the 1951 production year, so around July August 1951.

    Changes in various prefixes at: 16662023, 16103899, 16136866, 16163018, 16200001, 16230081, 16260061, 16300005, 16360010, 16330008, 16630079.

The inverted T grill is a 1952 model change commenced August September 1951 (26 prefix).

This is how it was up to 16662022

Larry will put up an image of his, but the 16662023 and later 1951 models have the same grill but the side lamps at the front of the mudguards the same as the 1952/53 models.

I have seen a list somewhere, however can't remember where I saw it. AC 260 will have a better idea.

If you look at the book it mentions that there are two sequences of 1950 chassis numbers.
    1. 06100001 to 06109999
    2. and the second 06110001 onwards
However when you look at the dispatch books 06110000 is at the back of the first book after 06109999 making a continuous sequence.

Why don't we start a new list here? I should like to mention that this is not a post to have a go at Mr Taylor, but rather to complement the excellent job he has done in his superb book, with evidence that he didn't have in 1996.

Two I can think of regarding the 80" models:
    1. Pg 39; WINGS, BONNET AND GRILLE PANEL. "... a circular rubber door buffer was fitted to each front wing... some early vehicles built before about Oct 1948 may not have..."

My '51 does not have them and appears to have the original panels still fitted. On an email forum I used to belong to years ago, several owners from around the World also said that their '51 cars did not have them.

    2. Pg 45; PAINT COLOURS (BODIES) "The utility versions of the 80-inch...came with just one standard colour: green. However, two greens were used.

Diana has an 80", which was beige from new! I also remember that someone else in Australia had a beige one. It can be argued that beige is non-standard but in the interest of accuracy, it seems a good idea to point out that there are exceptions to the green-only rule.

    Cheers Charlie
