Hema HN6 Navigator

My beautiful wife bought me the Hema HN6 navigator for my 40th birthday about a month ago.

I had talked about wanting one for ages, but always said that there is no way I could justify the cost of it. Since you can get 6 or more cheap sat nav systems for the price of the HN6...

Anyway she bought it for me without me knowing (because if I had known I would have told her not to), and after having used it for a month, with 1, 5 day bush camping trip, the results are in.

It is bloody fantastic!

Comes with oziexplorer on the HN6 plus a version for the PC, with a large array of Hema maps. Good for route planning, or as I did, download the waypoints and track from someone else that has done the trip.

And to think that until now I have continued to persevere with my absolutely navman GPS unit. I really did not know what I was missing.

I got one of these yesterday, after some cretin broke into my car and stole my previous Garmin Zumo (motorbike GPS).

Pretty impressed! Brilliant that you can do both city and track driving on the same unit. Plus you get a version of OziExplorer to run on your laptop with a full set of topo maps covering all of Australia.

Only downside I can see so far is that my Garmin had a battery life of about 5 or 6 hours, but the HN6 only goes for a couple of hours.

They are on 10% discount at RAA (the Sth Aust version of NRMA/RACQ/etc) in their online shop, so cost me $580 which is not bad.

I've had one for about a month now. Very happy with it, and also the service offered from Perth Map Centre where I purchased it (includes free training sessions).

Definitely a better unit all round than the VMS 700 that it replaced in my vehicle.

My daughter bought us a HN5i and I reckon it's awful. It's got serious deficiencies on the street map thing, not much on the off road maps and I use the Topo maps for that.
The Camp6 guide installed on it is quite useful though but it too can be messy with wrong descriptions and wrong locations.
Back up service from Opposite Lock is woeful....."ring up and speak to Hema" is their advice!!!
Had a much better after market system in the Prado with DEC maps etc.

Alan, the bloke in the Perth map shop top end of Hay St is very helpful. I've dealt with him before and recently bought the HN6 from him. Seems to know his stuff very well when it comes to Hema maps and the navigators.

We're also from the Blue Mountains and I've been thinking about replacing the Garmin Nuvi that comes fitted to the Freelander 2. Is there any chance if seeing your unit in situ and to here more about it? Regards Peter
