Thumbs up Freelander 2 Roof Rails

Just thought I would share my experience with roof racks for my Freelander 2. I was was quoted over $1500 to have the thee rails fitted, to my Freelander 2 at my Land Rover dealer. Recently I found these rails at www. aussieautoparts. com. They were posted from Vic with in 3 days for $299, and to be honest I can't tell the difference between EOM. the quality is fantastic.
*Fitted them myself with the help of this link from green land rover Fitting roof rails to Freelander 2 « Green Land Rover. Fitting these rails is quite easy the only part I was not sure about was the removal of the plastic and aluminium insert from the roof,

The roof rails are simply great quality, wouldn't surprise me if they came out of the back door of the original factory where Land Rover roof rails are made. I was so impressed I decided to order the cross-rail from John at Aussie auto parts, which he sells for $99, they are so similar to the Thule crossrail which are $320 from my local supplier roof racks.
They came yesterday and I fitted them right away , only took about 40 minutes and I'm very impressed with the quality and the secure fit to the Land Rover roofing rails. I highly recommend these items for anyone wishing to fit rails to the Freelander 2.

Mine cost me $800 a few years ago and I fitted them myself as well. I wish you had found yours earlier

    Noise

Hi, great post, I was looking at these as well. Are the rails with the single cross bar making any wind noise?

    Cheers, Axel

    Hi Gian,

Would love to see some pics of your roof rails. Some of the images steps in the green land rover guide look a tricky/messy/risky.

    Cheers

On your recommendation I purchased the roof rails and as you said they arrived quickly and were much cheaper than original equipment. Unfortunately for me that's where the good experience finished. One of the covers to the rails was missing its locking pin and after that was replaced I proceeded to attach them to the roof. It wasnt until I fitted the securing bolts to the roof that I noticed the bolts supplied to lock the rails to the roof were the wrong size.
After an unsatisfactory phone call to the company I went to my local Hardware store to try and find similar bolts and washers.
I won't go on any further except to say that I've had no reply from the company or even to recognize that the parts supplied were wrong. In fact they were adamant they have not had one complaint; I guess I'm the first. Not happy Jan!! no recommendation from me.

    Petersfree2;
I had the exact same issue. You call & they cut you off. Then you call back & they can't speak English & don't understand what the hell a flange is! The racks are good value however that's all. Two of my covers have come off & all I have done since installing them is city driving; they won't replace them & I apparently can't buy replacements. Annoyed!

I bought genuine and installed myself but I thought the covers were pretty dodgy on mine as well. Enough for me to tape them on with black tape. I could see them flying off and not being able to replace them. I lost the driver front corner plastic trim behind the wheel in a mud bath a few weeks back and $70 to replace. It's a 6x4 bit of plastic.

I used a product recommended by LR called Terostat sealant adhesive and then taped them to cure for over a day. So far so good.

Is it worthwhile installing roof rails?

    Hi,

Does anyone have any experience on whether installing roof rails is worthwhile?

I'm currently trying to decide between getting the roof rails installed or using a bar and foot roof-rack system. I don't have much car modification experience but am moderately handy with a drill.

For the roof rails, I was going to use the roof rails from here:
Aussie Auto Parts and Accessories_Land Rover Freelanader Roof Rack Kit

For the bars/feet, I was Thule GL 962 or GL 862 bars with the GL 754 feet. The fitting instructions are here:
    http://www.thule.com.au/FITTING_GUID...19-1443-02.pdf

I plan on using it for bikes and/or a roof box.

    Cheers,
    Paul
