    Another series 1

I have just acquired another series 1. this one is a 1958 model ( same as me) 109 inch ute. It came from a member of this site who has quite a collection including one with Royal connections. I needed a drivable Series 1 for some events comming up soon in WA and the 88 wont be ready in time.Plus the 109 can carry plenty of fuel ,fridge, beer, wine ,food , beer and camping gear necessary for those long desert trips . Only problem is its on the other side of Australia so after much debate and number crunching we have decided to put it on a car carrier cost $1600. It would have been a great adventure to drive back but with historic rego and the possibility of a breakdown back of woop woop we decided against it. It has been restored mechanicaly but the paint has been left in natural patina. I like the look and wont be changing it. I will probably have to add some indicators and maybe an alternator to charge up the fridge battery but thats about it. All we need now is a name im thinking maybe........ Keith!!!

Hi Mike. Its already got a name and indicator lights.

I call it Borumbah as this is stencilled on the mudguard but a bit hard to see now. You can change it if you like though some say its bad luck

There is an extra bulb in the tail light for the flasher and a double filament in the Lucas 488,s up front that does the same job.
I fitted a plug for the number plate wire so that if the tail gate needs to be removed the wire can be disconnected easily.
It always bugged me that mud always got plastered over the clutch and brake levers on these so I made a inner guard with flap that stops this. Keeps it much cleaner.

    Borumba it is

    Hi Keith,

Ok Borumba it is . Thats a great idea with the indicators and the tailgate. I will do some research on Borumba Station and see if we can come up with a pic of the 109 when she was newer.

    This is where it lived

Found a photo of "Old Borumba Station" in the Imbil National Park. see link

    Another link and more info

Panoramio - Photo of The old Borumba Homestead, Imbil National Park, Queensland

The station was owned by the Webb Brothers who where Country singers and they penned a song about the Station.

I believe this to be the setting of [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPxJjP0O1nA"]The Call of the Bellbirds[/ame], a country music song, written and sung by the Webb Brothers, Fabian, Marius and Berard.
The Webb Family lived here for a period, beside Borumba Creek. This "wild little valley, 'bout a hundred miles from town" is adjacent to the the pine forests of Imbil State Forest, and nestles at the western foot of Mt Borumba. Here blue gums grow along the creek flats and bellbird colonies ring their tinkling calls.
    THE CALL of the BELLBIRD
I've been a wayward wanderer, but found I like to rest
In my home up in the mountains, the place I love the best.
I wandered to the city in quest of better times
But now I am returning to my home up in the pines.
    *CHORUS
So ring your bell, bellbird, you're a-calling me back home
To my home up in the mountains no more I will roam
For there will be contentment, and my heart will be at ease
Where the bellbird's call at evening floats on the mountain breeze.
    * It seems I hear the bellbird in the valley far below
It brings back old-time memories of the days so long ago
So I'm finished with my wandering - I'm goin' to settle down
In this wild little valley 'bout a hundred miles from town
    * I'm leaving in the morning - I'll soon be back again
To my life up in the mountains where my heart will know no pain
And then again at evening I'll sit outside the door
Just to listen to the bellbirds and hear their call once more
    *
    * Ring ting-a-ling-a ring ting-a-ling-a bellbird
Ring ting-a-ling-a call me back home
    Ring ting-a-ling-a ring ting-a-ling-a bellbird
Ring ting-a-ling-a call me back home
Ring ting-a-ling-a call me back home
Since the construction of Borumba Dam downstream on the Yabba, this valley has been cut off from easy access to the world, except for a mountain road through Imbil State Forest. The Webb Brothers have since lived on the original family property "Thornside", about 40kms north of here.
Today, most of this property is now national park estate.

Thats a good search. The name on the guard has an H on the end so I have always looked for Borumbah without success.
I know the Webb brothers, they come to Kilkivan quite often especially during the Great Kilkivan Horse Ride. I will ask them if they know anything about it.

I believe it's bad luck for boats, but boats are inherently water proof (they keep the water out) which is completely opposite to Land Rovers, so maybe it's good luck to change the name of a Land Rover???

    Yes landroveritis

Yes and whats worse I met a whole bunch of other victims at thre classic car show last week up at Whiteman Park. These WA guys are not just show and shine they use their Landys to there full potential. They have several big trips comming up including the CSR next year again. This is why I decided to get the 109 it can carry lots of fuel and gear for this sort of trip. Having a drivable S1 will be very useful in my 88 restoration as i was not that good at cataloging where all the bits came from when pulling it down. I will be able to have a peek at the 109 and work out where everything goes. Being a ute it will also come in handy around the house shifting stuff and dump trips. I sent you a PM as well John.
