Brake Problem Is this unusual?

We were leaving in the 6x6 camper to go to the evening with Arthur Goddard, as we got to the bottom of the drive, no brakes. Unusual feeling as the pedal was pumping up and down with excessive movement something like an out of round drum. That should have given me a clue but all the worst things come to mind.
This has discs front with a VH40 booster and drums rear with a VH44 on each axle.
Anyway off with the rear wheels first and on the last one found this.
The bonded linings had come unstuck.
Would have been a bugger in the bush, would have had to clamp off the flexible to that axle I guess.
Does not say much for bonded linings.

not uncommon with bonded linings that have had oil exposure, have been dipped underwater while hot OR have locked on and "rocked" off.

The most common ones Ive seen are on the old 3T single axle trailers that used to go behind mogs with hydraulic override/parkbrakes. The pawl would lock the hydraulics, operators wouldnt realise "rock" the trailer to get the brakes loose and drive off. If they were unloaded the trailer would skip, if it was full they'd rip the linings off.

I would if I could.
These are the original shoes fitted by Leyland or whoever when the axle was first assembled. They were N.O.S. when I got them 13 years ago.

Ho here,there is a guy in Nambour that does shoe bonding,only a small place, "quickstop" or "bestop",used to do all of stuart's stuff did mine on the 2a no problems

They are just standard rear shoes. I had a spare one hanging on the wall so chucked it in. I wonder if getting them relined would be better value than these at $33.00 per axle
