Alternative engine ideas for 1965 s2a

I have a 65 s2a with a busted engine. I was looking for alternative engine ideas. Before I rush straight into a replacement engine.

It's a petrol but I'm happy to convert to deisal, maybe.

I'm looking for something reliable with power and cheap to run.
Not to expensive to buy. Or anything to difficult to modify.
    It's a daily driver.
    Thanks

Search the Other Powered forum a bit lower down and Google 200tdi Land Rover conversions,

200 or 300 tdi would be the easiest to bolt in.

However if it is a daily driver and you do any highway driving I would be tempted to bolt in a stumpy bellhousing and R380 as well, which will make it much nicer to drive...

As already mentioned....200Tdi easiest, 300Tdi next easiest other manufacturers harder unless you can find a conversion kit.

With 200/300Tdi you have to decide whether to discard the turbo or if keeping the turbo whether to upgrade the box (apparently the life of the Series box will depend on your driving style with the turbo fitted).
If going permanent 4WD you also have to ideally change the front axle.

My Isuzu C240 conversion seems to drive OK but it's not back on the road yet. Isuzu C240 powered Series 3
Seems to be a few around from the 80's. I just obtained a spare motor & conversion kit and there was one on Ebay in QLD 6-8months ago.

A 200/300 TDI for diesel but maybe a Holden 186 or 202 maybe even 3.8 V6 but the others like Ford 250 cross-flow or Valiant 215, 245 or 260 for petrol options. My preferred one would be the Ford 250, cheap and easy to find, unlimited parts and better on fuel than a 2.25 petrol, don't know how but they are.
