Hi all,
I'm looking for advice really.
I'm looking to buy a couple of things for the defender. I went to order some stuff from one of the bigger off road shops. Not the three initials ones either! Anyway. I'm looking to spend around $1600 for a new roof rack alone and was told that its not carried in stock and would need to be ordered in. And I'd have to pay freight.
Is it right that a large well known company can charge extra to sell me a product they advertise simply because they don't want to stock it.
So my question is can I refuse to pay freight in a legal sense or should i just shop elsewhere?
Cheers
Nino.

There are a lot of stores that add on an expensive transport cost for an item not in stock. If you ask the question sometimes you can wait for their next shipment time and not have the extra cost.
I know of one such company ( one of the larger ones ) who have always charged the freight if they dont have the stock, its difficult for a company to carry everything in stock, and with the many variations in parts, it is not good business sense to have parts sitting on the shelf.
I also know of alot of other companies who do the same, especially if its got to come from overseas.
If said company had to get you a rack in and it was from Perth, then thats going to cost a few hundred bucks, so they want that back, that 1600 rack becomes 1800 as an example. So they look cheaper but there not, its also there way of doing business, they are not hiding this fact.
If you want rack drop us a line....
Actually if its an "advertised special" they need to have sufficient stock for expected orders. Not zero stock and push you to the more expensive version. That's why some sales have the small print , limited stock, or , first xx buyers. Whereas others if they run out or have not had the expected delivery will do a price check till the new stock comes in.
If its LR stuff you are after try Daniel at the Buy 4x4 Land Rover Toyota Nissan Accessories and Parts Online | Web Store | Expedition Centre Australia by Mulgo. He has a freight calculator on his site, or just ring him.
I usually give these bozos the opportunity to match prices, especially up here but in brassy they should be vying for your business---I bought one of the cheapie ones but now the D2 sports a tjm full stepped rack bought from "gumnut" secondhand for less than 1/2 price and looks brand new LOOK around heaps of quality secondhand goodies down your way
