    Oils, filters and service intervals

    Hi again,

Pretty quiet down here in the Freelander section, so hopefully that means no news it good news!!!!

I have the 2007 SI6 petrol. What oils are others using when servicing their engines? And is anyone doing their own maintenance? I have always done my own and will keep on doing it once I get the right info.
Seems the oil should be a 0W-30 with ACEA A5/B5 specification (from the handbook) This ACEA a5b5 spec seems hard to come by. HPR 0 says it is suitable for use in this engine but does not meet the A5B5 spec....hmmm

    Castrol Australia - NetLube
Here's a link to Castrol net lube.

I have a TD4 and use Mazda Diesel extra oil in it. (it is used in all Mazda diesels with a DPF fitted) I use this because its the correct grade for this engine and I get a discount from a Mazda dealer for it.

There are oils you will have trouble getting and may need to go genuine, these are PTO and haladex oils. They are castrol oils but castrol wont supply them. Both of these are recommended to be changed at 240000km.

You need a Hawkeye or similar to reset service light. PM us when you need to, as I live in Singleton and have a Hawkeye and can reset for you.

I still question the service interval on the auto boxes. I think the first change is 150k according to the book. Seems a little long for my liking.....

I'm pretty sure that's miles as well. The diesel timing belt is 240,000 kms. I've double checked that with LR.

I've just ordered a 20litre drum of Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 which has the proper approvals for ACEA A5/B5 which is the spec listed in the book for the SI6 petrol. Volvo people are using this as well in their identical engine.
Also ordered air and oil filter from ebay uk. Got WIX braned ones.
12000km engine oil service intervals...not sure about that...

12000 for engine oil is fine. Change sooner and your wasting money.

I've always used genuine since an after market oil filter disintegrated in the canister.
