    Puma electrical problem

    G'day all,
I have a slight drama, my 2012 90 seems to have developed some sort of electrical fault. I pulled up at opposite lock this morning to look at a few toys and when I jumped back into the landie and turned the key, nothing! It unlocked ok but when I turned the key there were no dash lights, no nothing at all. I got out, went round to the passenger side and checked the battery terminals, they were fine and when I looked over to the drivers side I saw the red light was on so clearly I had power back again! I turned the key and away she went, as though there had never been a problem. Everything seemed fine, I stopped and started it several times and there was no problem. A few hours later the same thing happened, the landie locked with the remote, the indicators flashed etc... All normal, but when I went to unlock it and jump in, again, nothing. I manually unlocked it using the key in the door lock and as soon as I opened the landie, the alarm went off, everything was back to normal with full electrical power to everything. I've got no idea what is going on here and I just wondered whether anyone else has experienced anything like this with a 2.2 puma? I'm also not really sure what to do about it, if I take it back to the dealer and everything is working fine then surely they won't be able to find what is causing the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks,
    Dave.

I think it will have to be a warranty issue, it's due it's first service in a couple of weeks so if it is ok till then I'll get them to have a look at it while they have it for service. Cheers mate.

My old Puma SVX used to have a problem like this, I had it checked by the dealer but it continued at times to it. Some people have found it happens at B.P. service stations, as it did on one occasion with mine. It's more scarey when it does it in the middle of nowhere as mine did on one trip north. I was going to have the immobilisers disconnected for this very reason but sold the vehicle. I found locking and unlocking with the key fob a couple of times worked but as I said in the bush it makes your sphincter work hard.

    Emergency key access

Have a look in your owners handbook page 6 Emergency key access. Occasionally an outside influence like an automatic door or building alarm can affect the key remote . This was common with the Disco 2 at a particular chain of Chemist outlets. Now that you have used the key to enter you will have to go through the procedure outlined in the hand book.
    Good luck

The first time it happened I used the remote to unlock the landie and it worked fine, it was just that when I put the key into the ignition and turned it there was zero power at all. The second time it happened the remote locked the landie but when I went to unlock it there was no sign of life, it was then that I used the key to unlock the landie and the alarm went off and I had full power again! Bizarre! Both of these events were about one kilometres from each other so maybe there is some sort of interference going on in that area. I'll check the manual and see what I need to reset. It would be pretty unnerving if it happened in the middle of nowhere, that's an experience I can happily live without! Thanks for your advice and help fellas, much appreciated.

The people across the road from my parents had a commodore, every time they used the remote the roller door went either up or down. Pat

Well I've been out and about in the landie all arvo and so far it hasn't happened again so I'm happy about that. I'll get southern's to take a look at it in a couple of weeks time when the service is due if it continues ok until then. It's the first drama I've had with the puma so I'm not too stressed, I'd just like to know what has caused it. Apart from that, I love the thing, it's great!!

I think it should be standard warning to all electronic LR owners....DO NOT PARK NEAR SUPERMARKET / SHOP FRONT AUTO DOORS. I'm guessing strongly that was your fault and you wont find anything wrong with your car.

Sometimes it doesn't matter where you are it does it, its an obvious fault that needs addressing. Not only here but world wide. It really is scary when its 45c, your miles from anywhere, and the immobilisers shuts your vehicle down.
