    G'day All- Help needed!

    G'day Fellas,
I'm new to this forum and very much on my learners.
I have just taken possession of a series1 that has been in the family for over 40 years and intend on restoring her to her former glory.
The first thing I would like to do is find out some history on her and then find out exactly what motor is in her so I can source the correct parts. She has been parked in a paddock in a dry area for the last 35 years but she was driven back to the house yard and onto/off the trailer when I brought her home. All she needed was some air in the tyres,a battery and some fresh fuel.
    What I know so far:
VIN number (on metal plate on LHS firewall) R8665043
Engine number: 16104597 (replaced original approx. 1974 after Repco damaged original block during re-bore and replaced with this one)
The vehicle has a metal plate riveted to the front panel (RHS) in front of the radiator stating that in was delivered by Grenville Motors , Sydney.
I believe that the original owner was a Mr Fisher of Coonamble NSW as his details can still be seen (just) sign written on the RHS mudguard along with the Tare weight
If anyone can please assist with any information it will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dean

P.S. photos to follow as soon as I work out how to upload them.

    Welcome

    Hi Dean

    Welcome aboard to the forum.

That's hardly a find as you have known about it for so long.

But what a treasure you have there and with a lot of its history as well.

On Landroverseries.org you can find VIN details. This one:

    R Prefix: Right-hand drive (RHD)
    8 Model years: 1948 to 1949
6 Model: Land Rover, Series I, 80in, petrol
    6 Body type: Basic
    5043 Serial number

I am afraid that I have no resources on engine numbers, anyone?

Firstly you have a very early 80". You have the Grenville Motors plate, should be able to locate the dealer who sold it and when

    Pics are always welcome here

The VIN number is not too far away from matching the engine number on the side-plate engine I have sitting here. Pity it's across the other side of the country!
Looking forward to the photo's. Want to see what the chassis is like.
