Question Old Defender bull bars on puma?

any modifications needed to fit a bull bar meant for an older defender to a puma?

not sure of Brand and whatnot at this stage, just a generic question.

if It is a winch bar should I re-enforce the mounts due to the pumas thinner chassis thickness compared to older models?

    Cheers in advance.

Not sure if it's really relevant

But I bolted a svx bumper straight onto the series 3 front without issues and that has leaf springs.

Something else to consider is if the Old defender bumper meets the ADR of the puma IE the winch bar on my 110 leans forward. while this was fine when it was fitted it would not be allowed on a modern 110 due to rule changes

EDIT: found the rules AS/NZS 4876 and ADR 69/00

    Cheers

so potentially this could mean in an accident i would not be covered if the bar is not approved for use on a puma?

i guess that's the same issue with the rovacraft/terrafirma bars though isn't it, not ADR approved?

Most definitely would put you at risk of liability

But we're talking effectivly about having the old 5 poster style fitted to a puma which is unlikely to happen I don't think I've seen a bar of this style made in the last 10 years ADR 69/00 came into effect in 1998 for defenders

http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/media..._VS_CI_112.pdf has some drawings that show what I'm refering too.

As far as I know the biggest thing that catches people out is bull bars that aren't certified for use with airbags(which a defender doesn't have) and this can result in voided insurance /liability as far as I know. I think this is the issue with people putting cheaper non-certified bars on discoverys with airbags fitted

This is the older style and cannot be fitted to vehicles made after 1998 it does not meet ADR 69/00

This is the newer style you'll notice the point of impact is at the bottom of the bar and the tubes are set back towards the car and are lower than the bonnet this meets ADR 69/00

I changed my ARB winch bar from my td5 to the 2012 puma. What I had to do was to extend the brackets by 55 mm to put the bar clear of the protruding grill.

I have an ARB winch bar that stays with me as I go from one Defender to the next. It was originally fitted to a Tdi. When I bought my Td5 I needed to use extension brackets to make it clear the extended grill. The dealer supplied them so maybe they're still available. Now I have it fitted to my 2012 model and re-used the same brackets.

Hi guys, in terms of ARB bars, the Defender bull bars should fit onto any other Defender, provided it does not have a protruding grill or is a limited edition.

    Cheers, Sam
