Learning welding basics in Perth

Does anybody have any suggestions of somewhere that does a quick intro to welding/evening course? Would be interested in learning the basics so I can make a few brackets/etc. for the car, and I guess it could come in useful elsewhere!

TAFE usually run courses and even night courses from memory.

Yep do a tafe course. I did a quick intro course a few years ago.. One thing lead to an other and now I'm just about to finish an advanced TIG ticket. Any mug can melt metal but having someone who knows how to do it properly show you so you get something that is beautiful and strong is worth the effort.

Also, the discounts that many places give to students will more than cover the cost of the course.

If I was in or near Perth I'd teach you for free!! I'm a coded welder/boilermaker by trade. I'm sure if you walked into a welding shop near you with a carton of decent beer under your arm at 4pm one eve, they'd give you the basics of mig welding, and If you found yourself walking into a shop and coming back with a 200 amp (or above) single phase mig you'd soon learn a lot with just scrap pieces on the bench... Don't be talked into 'gas less' wire or Co2 gas either.. Both about as much use as tits on a bull!! PM me if you need more info! Good luck. Once you can do it its very rewarding!

I agree with this post,get a 200 amp mig with gas and you wont look back.

it's great to have a mig at home and if you find you've got something a bit more delicate i'm sure there are some people on here (me included) who'd be happy to TIG some stuff for you. especially if you bring 'round a few beers

Thanks! I just want to make a bracket to attach my hilift and maxtrax on my spare wheel to start with, but I can see it being useful for other things too!

Get your bits cut,I can weld them for you and you can play with the mig on scrap if you like whilst you are here
