Hi All,
My wife and l have 3-4 weeks to do trip from December 10 onwards. I was thinking Flinders Ranges? Someone suggested Border Track but l feel it might be too hot at that time of year?
Anyone with ideas??
We are based in Victoria. Driving a Defender with camper trailer. All the right gear etc etc. Just chasing ideas for a trip really.
Cheers,
Mike

Couple of thoughts off the top of my head.
For me, that time of year is best suited to either the mountains or the coast. What about a trip up either the Great Dividing Range or the East Coast, camping on the beaches.
Or what about Tassie?
Cheers,
Jon
One thing I noticed when we went to the Flinders my hands got very sore *( no not that) from Waving at Landy Wavers, must be a SA thing, it didn't matter what Land Rover you drove. Very friendly bunch there.
We did it over easter school holidays years ago and it was very hot.
I would have been thinking something like Fraser/Morton Island with the hords of backpackers or Tassie (not that I've been to Tassie)
Cheers

yeah, that time of year its got to be tassie in my book - no to the flinders, just too hot
I've had a couple of quick trips to Tassie in Jan/Feb where the weather has been very mild.

Spend the first day and flog over to Adelaide and the Barossa, have the first nite in our Paddock, there's showers and beer here... Day 1 in the Barossa enjoying the wine, food etc leaving the trailer set up for night 2. Day 2, pack up and have a lazy drive down thru Adelaide, Glenelg and the coast to Goolwa.. Out onto the Fourby only beach to the Murray Mouth. Camp in/around Goolwa for that night. Then head south, via the Coorong. Find the beach again and follow it down eventually to Robe. Some awesome and technical driving in places.. (We're headed there in Oct in the 101 with a few other fourbys). Once done, head out to the Grampions and loose a few days there, then back to Melbourne. I'm guessing you've 'done' the High Country being so close.... Cheers for now.![]()
Mike, not knowing what you have done but as a Briso, some beach dwelling in Croajingolong NP would be nice leading into Xmas. Maybe explore the coast up towards Bega before heading for the hills west of Cooma to miss the holiday rush.
