    sunroof wont raise one side

Hi all. My sunroof decided to play up. It slides in and out no problems but only one side will raise to seal properly . Same issue when doing the tilt. I had a brief look and it seems that the plastic piece that moves along to raise the glass is not attached to the sliding rail on the side. I know that's a pretty bad description but if someone has taken the rails off they may understand what I am referring to. Something has obviously broken but without pulling it all down would like to know how it should be. The good side moves along as though it is actually attached to or held on to the sliding rail but the bad side slides freely . There is a lug that goes into a slot on the sliding piece but on the bad side that slot is open ended . Is that broken and should be closed. Want to try and work out what's broken and get replacement bit before pulling it all out.

Easy enough to remove glass, only four torx screws. Do this and post a photo or two, depending what's broken i may have the part you want. If its the plastic thingy that the cables locate into then good luck getting parts without buying complete rails for a bomb, thats the most common fault.

Thanks Rob. I will pull it all out tomorrow. I called in to a spares place and they said that parts aren't available. So will see what is actually broken and then go from there. I will update when i see where the problem is.

Pretty sure you will find that there is a broken wire mount, its plastic.
The wire/cable looks much the same as a pushbike wire termination on a brake lever.
There is a spare part available in the UK, dont recal the web site too well Brit parts possibly.
Its a bit of a drama pulling it all out and putting it back.

That's is exactly where it had broken. Its the piece that has the cable secured and has snapped. Yes it was a pain to get it out and from what I can gather there is no replacement part locally unless you can source a sunroof from a wrecker. I super glued it together and managed to operate it so that at least its closed and won't leak.I am sure it will break again soon if I operate it but for now she is watertight. God knows why they don't make these pieces out of alloy or something that can take the stress without breaking. I will keep checking to see if the piece can be sourced from the UK.

I found the sodding thing years ago as a spare part new, never got round to buying it.
MY sun roof hasnt been opened since 2005 ish.
You can operate it and push it down and it will bed in.
I think mine is broke on the right side.
You most likely spent a few hours on it..........I remember that bit well.

My right one broke, bought a second hand set of rails from UK, so I still have the left one if you want it. You can buy complete rail assy from a major sun roof repairer ( can't remember name )in USA $$$$ Simplest thing is don't open the sun roof!!!

Thanks Rob but you will probably need it sooner or later. Where is a 3 d photocopier when you need one? Probably won't be long when you can take all your broken bits to a 3 d shop and get a new one printed.
