we will be visiting the fairy penguins in Philip Island..
doing a trip to the museum
also going to a horrible histories stageshow ??!!
staying in packingham..(I think thats it) and trying not to break the (very meagre) bank!!!
Maybe Pakenham you're stopping at ?
If so, you can head out of Melbourne to Moe and there is a collection of old buildings, vehicles etc. called Old Gippstown. Went there a few weeks ago and the kids enjoyed it. It's a bit run down but some interesting stuff there (including a Stanley Steamer), restaurant was good & reasonably priced. Entry costs were reasonable.
Coal Creek is another similar setup in Korumburra. Old buildings re-located years ago but this is a bit more run down than Old Gippstown. This one is free.
If you're going to Philip Island there is a wildlife park just before you get to Cowes on the LHS. It's quite run down but you do get to feed kangaroos, wallabies etc. and reasonably priced.
There is also the Koala Park and Churchill Island. I think the homestead on Churchill Island is the oldest homestead in Victoria. It's well signed as you get onto Philip Island and there is a bridge over to Churchill.
If you are going to see the penguins it will be bloody cold, it might be worth checking how many penguins are coming in at night before paying $20 per head to sit on a cold beach in the dark......
If it's Pakenham and you have a free hour or so PM me and you can check out my small collection of Land Rovers (I'm a short drive away). I do have to collect another at some point this weekend but should be around.
Enjoy.
