Engine Watchdog - Where to mount sensor on engine (TD5)

    Hi all,

I have just picked up a TM4 engine watch dog, i would just like to what which bolt people have used for the sensor "O"-ring; and what temperatures are people setting for their max?

As the TM4 also comes with the low oil pressure alarm, i would also like to know which wire to tap into behind the dash.

    Thanks

Hi, I just attached mine to one of the inlet manifold bolts. I figured that once I knew the temps that were normal then it becomes relative to that.

Driving across the Barkly in January this year I saw it climb as the outside temp got in the mid forties. It got to 86 deg but driving in normal temps in Darwin and Cairns is about68-74

    Cheers
    Gary

Thanks for that garry, i ended up pushing the sensor through a grommet behind the gauge cluster, and will mount the device on the right side where there is a nice surface at the right angle for viewing. As for the location of the sensor, what i did was remove the top bolt of the rear left hoist point on the engine, please let me know if this is a bad idea.

Know the only thing i need to know is which wire to splice into for the low oil pressure alarm.

    Thanks

I put mine on this point but I find it is a bit slow to react. I thing the steel lifting point takes longer to change temp. I was going to move it to somewhere where it is straight on the alloy head or remove the steel bracket.
    Cheers, David.

I put mine between the head and the bracket, not between the bracket and the bolt head. I assume you did the latter?

No I put it against the alloy head under the bracket. I maybe wrong but it was just an observation.

Edit: On second thought I will have to check in the morning to confirm.
    Cheers, David.

After some research i think i have found the correct wire to splice into for the Oil pressure switch to warning light; I believe it is the White/ Brown wire.

But before i go and do it, it would be great to get some confirmation from someone in the know,

    thanks

I put my temperature sensor where my mechanic advised me to place it.
There is a threaded hole at the back of the engine about 15cm below the rocker cover gasket. It's a good spot as it is away from the manifold and appears to provide a good consistent reading.

I also started off by placing it where you did, but also found it heated up too slow.

    From memory I think it's a 7mm thread.
Normal operating temp for my td5 is between 75 & 79.
In summer the temp gets a little over 81.
