New Combo

Not much action on here at the moment so putting something up.

Just put a deposit on one of these bad boys in the 2500 size at BCF today, down to $199 and cheaper than the normal Stradic FJ:

All my other kit is quite large (Stradic 8000, Baitrunner 6500) and I wanted something to chase whiting, flathead, bream etc with. When I pick it up next week I am also going to find a suitably sized rod (2-4kg). Apart from targeting the smaller species off the beach I'm also keen to start fishing in the river more as its only a 5-10min drive and the combo I'm putting together will quite easily fit in my Commodore - I just cant park in the dodgy spots as I've heard of lots of vandalism and theft going on during late night fishing.

Ultimately, I'd like to learn to start using plastics, but don't really know anything about them so will be sticking to bait for the time being and start to read up on it a lot more.

Ended up getting paid last night Picked up the Ci4 today along with a Pflueger Trion 7' Rod, 2-4kg two piece job. It fits perfectly across the back of the boot with in the Commodore so no more excuses for me saying its too hard to get out. Got the reel spooled with 150m of mono under 150 yards of 8lb power pro braid. The combo balances beautifully and is nice and light.

Now just schooling myself up on plastics and what works around my area (reading up heaps on FishWrecked.com). Then to stick it in the back of the car and go for a fish!

If you want a good spot the Dawesville Cut(Mandurah) is great,you need to be there on the top or bottom of the tide change as the current is strong at other times.
If you got to my favorite bit,next to the surf club carpark you fish from your car

Went and got my first soft plastics today and a handy little sealed tackle container. Idea is I can keep this stuff in my car and crack it out at any time. Nearly sorted except because I went in last thing yesterday the shop started losing on me and in my panic I forgot to get some suitably sized leader (closest I have is 15lb). Not a problem I just have to revist them during the week



Also thinking about some 50-75mm PVC tube with caps to keep my rod in while its in the car. Can wrap the rod in tea towels to stop it vibrating about and PVC tube means it can't be crushed? Any thoughts? Basically wanting a kit that I can keep in the car and any time I want to go fishing, whether that be on the way to or from work, or while sitting n my bum over the weekend, then I can just go.

I've never tried plastics, or the river, but am keen to give it a go. The river is even closer from my place.

When you use soft plastics its the same as using hard body lures, have a wide variety and keep changing them often until you find the color that they like. I've used nuclear chicken for snapper one week in Westernport bay, then next time I go to same place they wont touch them but bite on pumpkin seed color. Spend 10-15 mins then swap. Lastly don't leave them on your line as they go as hard as a rock and will corrode your Jig heads. Oh and dont forget to Berley up and cast them in the berley trail. Let em sink to the bottom and leave them there for 30-40 secs then quick flick with the rod and start your retrieve.
