Vehicle 34712643H; Engine no. 34524192B; Standard vehicle; Keys 916, 689; Olympic APL (All Purpose Lug); Supplied to Rowley Motors (northside Sydney dealers) 6.8.73.

H model vehicles have many improvements - wide headlights, possibly Salisbury rear differential (from memory) maybe metric studs and wheel nuts, etc, etc. With 3"wide front brakes it was probably the best ever Series Land Rover! , only improved with the 3.5L V8 and Australian Isuzu engine Stage 1 Series 3 with a strong gearbox and strong front cv joints and axles. Series 3 were being rolled out at this time.

The holden red is really common lol. My 2A has a Red 161. Just wondering, what sort of exhaust do you have for yours? The 161 has extractors and it looks like it's going into a 2 1/4" or 1/2" exhaust, exiting just behind the passenger side of the body

The 2.6 Litre Six was not a popular motor in Australia,as being a side/overhead motor working on and adjusting the rear 2 exhaust valves was not easy, that is why many 6 cylinder Land Rovers particularly the Ex-Army series 3's had burnt 5 & 6 exhaust valves as the cooling for the rear cylinders was not good,so common replacements were Holden L series motors (Red,Blue,Black) and Falcon 250's also Chrysler Valiant 215,245 and 265's but the gearbox suffered a little.

    cheers

    Hi Sisyphus,
Unfortunately it is only possible to get that info if it was delivered through Grenville Motors in Sydney-whom supplied most of NSW. I have had a look at the books and couldn't find yours. It would likely have come to Australia around August-October 1970 though, judging by chassis numbers that aren't too far off yours.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for having a look , I do know it was sold by Baker Motors in Albury originally as their metal sticker remains in the engine bay as dealer for Austin Morris Rover and ahem Rolls Royce ( he was in fine company ! ) you have narrowed the date down which is good

    Thanks again Alan

    Hey Mark
When I get a minute, I'll get the numbers off Ralph and get you to have a look for me if you dont mind. I think I have seen a "pressed metals" badge somewhere and lived it's years in Oberon west of the Blue Mountains on a farm.
    Cheers Ian
