    6 Speed D3 box to LT230 ??

What is / Who makes the D3 Manual Gearbox , not a MT82 by the looks

Check out this guys project to fit a 6 speed box into his Defender with a GMC 6.5 Tdi in front , (don't like his cut & shut output shaft , tick tick )

I'd have been happy with a 2.7 tdci V6 in front.

proves you can fit anything to anything.

now that I think the Ford Territory uses the jag 2.7 Tdci and MT-82, hmmm

The 6sp manual to LT230 has already been done by a UK mob. But they put a decent engine in front, the 2.7 TDV6 (jag version), not a poxy 6.5.

I was looking for info on the D3 6sp box the other day. Found nothing.

But ratios from the D3 brochure:
    1 5.08
    2 2.8
    3 1.78
    4 1.26
    5 1.0
    6 0.835
    R 4.73

    Final drive 3.07
    Transfer 1/2.93

Compared to Defender MT82 ratios they are pretty close:

Transmission GFT MT-82 six speed manual
    Full time four wheel drive
    Transmission
    (high/low) : 1 Overall Gearing
    (High/Low Range)
    1st 5.443 23.334/62.988
    2nd 2.839 12.171/32.854
    3rd 1.721 7.378/19.916
    4th 1.223 5.243/14.153
    5th 1.000 4.287/11.572
    6th 0.742 3.181/8.587
    Reverse 4.935 21.156/57.109
    Final drive ratio : 1 3.540
High range transfer box ratio 1.211
Low range transfer box ratio 3.269

    ZF IIRC Don.

don't use the pathetic clutch they have, too small for a d3. check out the complaints http://www.car4play.com/forum/post/index.htm't=1200

and yes i have done one, and yes they are totally mismatched for that vehicle application IMO.

Forget that ceramic friction disk too.... 30000kms and the disk will still be like new, and the flywheel will have a matching grove all the way around it! Used to fit them to the bricky forklift tractor conversions at request of owners, and we'd be replacing the flywheel, friction disk and clutch cover a year later back to standard!
