I was a bit surprised to have this light on so early... is this normal?
I drive like a grandma most of the time... although have done a bit of towing a small camper trailer and a bit of offroading...

All very different k's for each D4 depending on driving styles, where you drive, and what you tow.
I thought mine would go early based on what I have read here.
I have travelled 40,000 with huge amounts of very heavy towing, a fair bit off offroad, but we only have little hills in WA, and I don't do any stop start traffic.
I have atleast another 30,000 on front and rear. Rotors are also in good shape last time I swapped my tyres over.
Brett.....
Those kms seem far too low even for a D4 - so I would be thinking about pulling off the wheels and having a lookie see - I would be expecting and faulty sensor as they are quite flimsy but you never know.

I would go with what Garry said, They go open circuit to show brake pad wear so, it may be possible one of the wires has been broken or disconnected. IIRC there are two sensors, one on front near side and one on rear offside - someone will jump in to say otherwise if not. Have look and ensure the wiring for the sensors is intact.
PS had my 1st change of pads at ~80k km.

I managed to dislodge a sensor on a not very rough trip a while ago. I stuck my head behind the wheel and saw the broken sensor hanging from a wire.
That would be my first port of call to check.

Check to see if the brakes have been binding as there have been a few reported instances on the D3 forum.

A lot of dirt road driving will often chew the rears out, leaving the fronts fine.
