BFG/Kumho

Hi guys,
Just wondering, I'm up for new tyres soon, so I'm after some advice/ideas on what to get.
I drive a 110 CC ute, and although its kind of loaded most of the time at present, (removable storage/camping canopy) by Xmas it should basically just be empty most of the time except when going away camping.

So, I had a mind to just get Coopers, I've had a good run with these and the Disco, (3 sets), but when I went to the tyre shop today, it was suggested to me either BFG KM2's, or Kumho KL71's. I'm looking at the equivalent of 32's, as to go to 33's I'd need new rims, which aint-a-happening.

Both of these tyres I can get for a tad over $300 which to me seems pretty good value. Whilst the BFG is standard, as in it isn't directional, the Kumho, which I haven't seen mentioned in quite a few years, is a directional tyre. At present, I'm running MTZ's (31's), which I've been very happy with, but due to changing vehicles with them, they have become very noisy, which I'm over to say the least. I still have my GG's that came with the car, but with no ABS, in the wet, these are deadly, and I'm not looking to be swapping tyres every time I think I'm going to hit the bush.

So, who has either of these, and how do you find them. We will be touring a couple of times a year, and also some weekend play, but do quite a lot of miles to and fro work.
I guess also, if you have better ideas on what would or could be better suited to our needs, feel free to suggest away.

I just recently bought some Federal Couragia M/T in 265 75 16.Which is a 32inch tyre i think.I've done about 1,000 km on them so far and they seem pretty good.There is a little bit of noise, but no more then any other mud tyre i reckon.

I did a bit of research on these tyres before i bought them and there were alot of positive reviews, especially considering the price.But with any tyre you get the negative side as well.They cost me $225 each which worked out alot cheaper then the other 2 well known brands.

I couldn't tell you how many km you would expect to get out of them though considering i just got them.There is plenty of tread in them and from what i have read they are great in the mud.I'm really happy with them so far but what ever you do when you get your new ones, we need to go and test them out! I haven't even tried mine out yet.

I had a set of Kumhos once and they were terrible ... I got very low mileage out of them. Maybe I just had a set from a bad run?

I've never had a problem with BFGs though

I have Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts on our Disco 1 and find them good not noisy good traction on both steer and drive, slightly aggressive and they are on standard D1 alloys 245 x 70 x16 and so far have had no problems,this vehicle has done the Cape and NW Qld with them,but rears are getting down below 50% now.

Hi guys,, first up, I made an error with the GG's I said I had on the original rims,,, they are in fact the Cross Contacts as supplied by LR,, totally crap on the road in the wet,,

Chris, I'll check them out and see what they look like,, and when we get whatever we get,, we'll go out
Cobber, I had the Kumho's way back when they first came into the country on my old series 3 SWB Ute,, awesome, and got good mileage, however, it was a light vehicle.
Uncle, I did wonder about the DD's, but don't think they look aggressive enough overall. I've had mates who have had them, and they have always seemed to be complaining about them .

I've been looking into these recently as i cant find another Dunlop Grandtrek MT2 to make a set so may as well just get new tyres, pattern of the federals look good as does the price.

It might be an idea to pm Redback (Barry) and ask him this question as he has recently had a set of the Kumho's and the BFG KM2's on his D4.

I just had a set of KM2's 265/70/17 fitted to the D3, to early to say how good they are overall but most everyone I know who has had them raves about them. Having said that I can say that from new they are very quite for a Mud and handle more like a A/T on road than I expected.

I have owned various model Kumho's in the past and I wouldn't bother to own any again in a hurry. Most of them have worn out quite quickly and done nothing to exceptional.

I can recommend the BFGs, good tyre on and off road, never had the Kumho muds though, my Kumho's were the KL78 AT, very good tyre, not real good in mud though.
