    A whine D3

I have a d3 se 2005 with just on 100000kms on the clock and its developed a whine until it reaches a cruising/ momentum speed, and I am trying to work out whether it could be the trans or maybe the turbo? Happens when driving normally, and don't know where the turbo hoses are. Can anyone help me diagnose before I drop $1000 on the flush and pan replacement?

    Thanks

Does it vary with engine speed ?
Mine has a pronounced whine now, but stops if the A/C is turned off, it is in the compressor, has had it now for about 6-7K. Does not seem to be getting worse.

When using the accelerator it is there, but not when coasting. It does change a little with gear changes... Was thinking it may be the torque converter or something?

I would be checking-out the I/C hoses as there may be a small split.

Would the hose you think I should look at be listed here?

I will take a photo and post it tomorrow morning if you like. Are you getting black smoke (or more than usual) under load?

It's hard to say tbh. I had noticed more black smoke but have rarely driven in the last 6 months because I thought it may be trans and got a work car and haven't had the money to do the flush, but last night when driving it and listening intently I didn't feel it was the trans and began thinking it may be a hose or something.

A pic would be greatly appreciated rocmic! thanks

Might be a novice on mechanics but I learn when needed - replaced the air compressor to the amk one myself. bit chuffed by that so a hose should be easy! ??? Haha

    Adzee,
This is the hose that blew on me. I had a split in the hose on the underside just at the top. It runs from the intercooler up to the top of the engine just behind the radiator on the driver's side. It is the hose that is shown on the bottom middle of the parts drawing you posted up. I couldn't get a good angle to show the other IC hose - sorry.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers
    Mike

Had my intercooler hose changed last service, 145,000km 2006 tdv6. Preventative measure as it was getting a bit "hard", before going to Fraser, cost approx $300 fitted I think.
