I'd go for new due to warranty. These are expensive vehicles when something goes wrong.
But then my other car is a 110 so I'm not really a bells and whistles type of guy...
Hey guys and gals,
So I'm looking to buy a disco 4 with a budget or about $70k. I can get a 2010 HSE or 2013 TDV6, AFAIK the 2013 has better gear box with the rotating gear selector ( arguable if that is better or not, does IMO look better though) newer engine I think, updated ICE and some chrome bits.
Has anyone had both?
Is the newer model worth loosing the bells and whistles of the HSE? (Sunroof, keyless entry, reverse cam, front sensors, rear air con, elec memory seats, cold pack etc)
Not sure which way to go, I am leaning towards the 2010 HSE. The only things it is missing is the 8speed and updated interior I think?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

Thanks preacher, good point.
Hey Crimdog,
Sunroof is an option NOT std spec on a HSE
Keyless entry is an option NOT std spec on a HSE
The others you mention are std spec.
I have a 2010 TDV6 base model with extra's added. S/roof, Rear A/C, e-Diff, 7 Leather seats, Bi-Xenons.
I have driven both on many occasions & love the 8spd auto, it just changes things dramatically, it is so smooth.
The 6spd is still very adequate it what it does, there are no issues.
It really depends on what YOU want, in the end it's your money. Buy what you & don't regret it, I have done that once & will never do it again.
Good luck.
Cheers

Thanks Sniegy. I should have said that the HSE I was looking at had those options. I guess my main question was how good is the 8 speed. Sounds like its pretty good! I think I will miss elec seats and a few of the things that don't come with the base spec 2013 disco. Spoilt much..? Hahaha. I was going to go for a rangie!
Is there any other difference between the 2010 and 2013 models that might swing me towards the newer?
A HSE is a great spec vehicle, electric adjusted captains chairs are much more comfortable than standard seats without arm rests.
A much better stereo and all the other gizmo's for me would seriously make me consider the HSE.
The more powerful 3.0l engine in a HSE is a big plus, rear air, reversing camera, sat nav. Sure the 8 speed is great but is it on its own in a basic spec car add up to be more enjoyable to drive than the much higher spec HSE?
The real bonus of a new car is just that, its new and has three years warranty.
Good luck in your choice.
Cheers,
Terry

Hi Crimdog, if you can stretch your budget closer to $80k, then you can get the 2013 TDV6 with a few nice extras. We payed $77500 for ours earlier this year, with the following options:
7 seats, all leather
Hi-line audio
Rear camera
Rear air-con
E-diff
Extended warranty
It's a great car, and the 8sp auto is fantastic. But I haven't been in an HSE, so can't really compare.
Another thing to consider with a new car is how long you're prepared to wait. Unless a dealer happens to have exactly what you want on the showroom floor, you'll probably have to order one - that means a 4 month wait!
Decisions, decisions ... good luck with it, I'm sure you'll be happy no matter what you get!
I would tend to go new, but I have to confess the BiXenons, Hi-Line audio and the reversing camera are three options I'm really glad to have. I know a budget is a budget and if youre like me you stretched to get even that far but if you can grit your teeth try and get some options. You won't regret it.
Reversing camera at least...
I went the 2012 HSE (6 speed) over the 2013 SE (8 Speed), have not looked back.
HSE is definately worth all the extra's from my point over 8 gears. 3.0L HSE engine is unbelieveable, economy's good, towing is incredible.
Use all the standard bits of the HSE all the time, Premiuim sound, seats, rear air con, zenons etc. How often would i use 8 gears, based in city traffic i hardly get into 6th,
Comes down to whether you prefer material things over mechanical......

I'm shallow, I'd prefer material over mechanical any day. ...
