Question Car Bra for water crossings

I was provoked to make this enquiry while reading another thread on Car Bras. Gordon asked whether the question related to permanent or temporary bras. I am interested in the water crossing option.

I have a D4, bull bar (OL), but no snorkel. My brother has a very similar D4 and suggests a plastic tarp rigged to do the job temporarily as required.

This seems OK to me, but what do others do when fording streams? Nothing? Tarp? Or something else.

Tarp, cheap & simple, it's good to keep things that way.

    Car Bra, waste of money!

A tarp and some rope is a cheap option especially I'd that's all you have in the back of your rig.
A purpose built one bra/sheet what ever you want to call it is easier to put on especially if designed for a specific bar.
Another benefit of the tarp is that it gives your brakes, turbo, exhaust etc a bit more time to cool down before they get wet as its a slower process puting it on. Not usually long enough as you should wait though....

Hey bloke, have to disagree with this statement, many years ago when the "CarBra" was the thing to have & I was dumb enough to own one or two for various vehicles I owned. I would have to say they are not a quick & easy figment to a vehicle.
I could easily say that fitting a cheap tarp with a couple of ocky straps could be done two fold by the time you were half way through the CarBra!

    Again don't waste your money.

    Cheers.

    Heh Pete,

I might have read it wrong, but I think he was talking about a wading tarp ? A "CarBra" would be no benefit for any water crossings....they only protect paint....maybe I am getting confused with terminology lol

I have a custom one for water crossings, and its much faster to fit then a tarp with occy straps...have used it a few times. One strap goes over the mirror and another hooks on the the side steps, and elastic makes it nice and snug.

Yeah I meant the purpose built sheets they makevjustbforvwayers crossings, not the car bra that is to protect against stone chips and the like.

Well! That is pretty clear. I'm going to stick with the tarp and ocky straps. Thanks all.

I have a carry over fitted tarp (from Michelle's Sacks) from my previous car, and once you fitted it (dry), it was a quick fit, as it went over the front, then clipped around the mirrors. Will have to break it out again and adjust it for the D4.
