    Horn - Dead or Alive

    Howdy all,

i just pulled the top housing off my Horn because i could hear some thing inside like sand, and it was.

Does anyone know how to test to see if the Horn still works?

I have added a photo that shows something all over the insides

    Cheers for your time

The stuff over the insides looks like melted or decomposing insulation.

The horn is a simple device just a solenoid and a set of contacts.
When you connect to a battery the solenoid moves & opens the contacts, the solenoid releases and the contacts close.......this repeats over & over again at high frequency
Check the contacts open mechanically and look clean, if not pull some emery paper through the contacts to clean then holding them open pull some rag with some metho on through.
Connect to a battery (get ready to disconnect quickly if that is melted insulation !) If it doesn't work there is an adjustment on the contacts, undo the locknut & adjust (be prepared for when the horn suddenly starts working !!).

    Best of luck.
