Pos fuel gauge on 95 defener

Gauge only goes to 3/4 full when its full to the brim and the bastards running out before its getting to empty any one had this issue? I'm suspecting the sender but don't want to splurge out if it could be the gauge but the gauge appears to operate normally when earthing the sender wire it's been an on going drama and I'm finally sick of it

Crook earth at the tank ?

Is there a resistor behind the instrument panel at all ?
    If so, maybe it's a dud ?

My sill tank sender has never worked, I don't think the VDO sender will work with the Landy gauge

Earth the feed wire at the sender and it goes straight to full so I'm suspecting the sender that and the gauge goes up and down in hard cornering and brakeing could also indicate the sender

mine played a similar game at one stage after gearbox removal, the problem was the two small earth wires attached to the front of the transfer case werent re connected.

You could try popping out the sender and cycling the arm to test it, ie; arm up to simulate full tank etc. The float arm may just be getting stuck.
