D3 Drivers door & rear tailgate

Hi Guys, long time lurker, first question. We have an early D3, this week drivers door has stopped locking. I have read previous posts about the actuator & seems likely. This afternoon however the rear tailgate has locked & will not open. I have tried the emergency release by simultaneously pressing the master lock/unlock buttons on the dash. It sounds like the mechanism is moving/unlocking but it still wont open. Is it likely the two problems are related? Any ideas to open the tailgate?

Nope, don't think so.
The tailgate is suffering from the broken cable end:

Not so sure on the drivers door lock sorry.
