Bushies Fathers Day

Late Friday afternoon I received one of them calls that no one wants to get.

Wollongong hospital called to tell me that they had my father in the ED and that things were very grave. I made some phone calls to my sisters, and myself and my youngest sister headed to the hospital.

After a long conversation (and in accordance with Dads expressed wishes) the various drugs and machines that were keeping him alive were switched off. My sister and I were able to say our goodbyes and at 8pm my father passed away.

My last conversation with Dad had been over the phone the previous evening.

So while I have my immediate family around me today it's a mixed bag as far as my emotions go.

Tell your family that you love them, and tell them often, because it can all change so suddenly.

Sincere condolences Martyn. A hard decision to make, sometimes the selfish inner voice springs up, wanting to keep them a bit longer. Parents don't last forever, cherish every moment you can with them.

Last week held the 3rd anniversary of my father's death, and being asked at an automotive parts store if I wanted to enter their Father's Day raffle brought it all flooding back.

It gets easier Martyn, you just never forget.
