Question Series IIa chassis under Series II?

    Hi folks,

The Chassis on Molly (1959 Series II 109) is not in a good way and I've been offered a Series IIa chassis in good condition.

Will a Series IIa chassis work for a Series II?

From what I've read there should be minimal (if any) differences between a Series II and Series IIa chassis, however my concerns were raised when in my research I noticed that Richards Chassis in the UK have a separate section for Series II and Series IIa chassis.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Regards.

There is one bracket in the II's engine bay that the IIa doesn't have, that's the only difference I know about. May be only on 2 litre petrol engined sII chassis though.

many moons ago on a remote island in PNG I had to build 1 useable LR from a series 3 and a 2A The S3 had a good chassis, not much else. The S2a had more good components but the chassis was shot. Somehow I got a workable machine out of that and in a non resource situation. hence started my love affair with land rover. AND yes it is a love affair

Actually, according the registration authorities, this thread should be Series II body over a Series IIa chassis, because that will be the result of the rebuild.

Make sure you get the ID plate to match the chassis.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Many many years ago on a remote island in PNG (New Ireland) I did much the same. Anything is possible with a bit of effort
