    2L core plugs - confused!!

    Hey all,

I have to replace the threaded core plug which sits at the front of the motor, and is partially covered by the manifold.

Is it, or is it not 1" BsCon on the 2L engine('55 in my case)?
I have read info which says it is, others seem to have no idea..

I don't have easy access to thread gauges etc and don't really want to start buying random items without being sure.

    Cheers,
    Ash

This was discussed here at length several years ago. I can't remember the answer, but a search should be able to find it. I seem to remember it is a very unusual thread!

Yeah I've searched a lot and find conflicting info.

Bugger it, I managed to locate and purchase a 1" BSCon tap today - I'll see how it goes! (And confirm if it's right)

    Core plug

I put my finger thru one whilst cleaning the engine before a weekend trip...

I had a plug out of a TD5 and it went straight in.

    Go figure.

    So I bought 3 more.

Worth a try. Let us know if it works.

It should be a "BS Electrical Conduit Thread" and have 16 threads per inch (TPI) for that diameter. If you clean the thread out you should be able to check it by using a 3/8 Whitworth bolt as a thread gauge, as it is also 16 TPI.

IIRC Incisor sells them in the "Dave's interesting Things" shop. He had them made up by a machine shop.
