    Perentie Power Steering

Has anyone used one of these kits ? And how does this price compare to buying the components individually ?

    I Cinan,

Got one fitted by Brad @ KLR last week. $1700. Well worth it. It's a totally different LR now. But wait untill he puts in the turbo... Approx $4K.

    power steering

When i recently purchased my new Perentie GS i thought the first thing I'd be doing was installing a PAS kit but after driving it for about a month now i have no real desire to do it in a hurry -i actually prefer the feel of it to compared to my county with PAS. Admittedly parking can be a bit of PITA but general driving it's fine. I think the turbo might become the new priority!

    Me too.

I don't do into car parks much, and the occasional reverse park doesn't both me in a Perentie.

Mind you, I'm not in a metro area.

I don't mind the lack of acceleration, but a turbo will be next.

If you want to lighten up the steering a bit, and make it more direct with less wandering/shaking etc.
replace the tie rods/steering damper and steering drop arm (pitman arm) and ball joint.

You can get aftermarket tie rod ends that still have a grease nipple (makes the last a hell of a lot longer) via the Quinton Hazell brand.

You can get the whole lot for $140 delivered from LRdirect.com. and it should be less and $200 for your mechanic to install then another $70 or so for a wheel alignment after you change the tie rod ends.

    part numbers
RTC5869 (You need 2 of these)
    RTC5870 x 1
    qfw000020 x 1

    Hi Cinan,
$2500 is very expensive. About $800 to much if you include the $60 shipping.
Also the kit on Ebay relies on a belt driven pump whereas the KLR kit uses a new Isuzu pump which bolts onto the engine and runs off the timing gear. If you go belt drive you will not be easily able to install aircon or on board air in the future.
I recently fitted a KLR kit and am really pleased with it. The old "Armstrong" steering is ok on asphalt and gravel but gets a bit tiring (for my old arms) during slower off road lock to lock driving. I have found the PAS to be brilliant in all situations and highly recommend it.

Try messaging BadCo on here as he put one together himself from scratch. He will be able to give you a cost of doing it that way.

Just an FYI, the KLR power steering kit just went up quite substantially in price.

now $2500 with a new steering box or
$2000 with a rebuilt steering box.

damn shame. Maybe if the AU$ gets a better exchange rate in the future the price may come down again, but that's the price for today.

<edit> it the mechanical p/s pump a Land rover part or an Isuzu part? and does anyone have a part number for it?

So it went up $300? Or was it 1700 with new box? How has your exchange rate been lately?

The pump is Isuzu. It should be in the RPS for the 6x6 and Surveillance vehicles. Its is also common between other engines like 4BE1, I think.

Isuzu 5195000460 is the part number for the p/s pump assembly.

The 6BD1 pump will also work fine on them but it is a tad bigger in size but makes the steering super light
